Prime Minister Carney’s move to increase the in-office mandate for federal public service workers is completely out of touch with what’s best for workers and taxpayers in Canada.
This government is fixated on reducing public service spending – planning to slash 30,000 jobs and the critical services people depend on. Needlessly forcing workers back into offices five days per week flies in the face of everything this government is trying to achieve.
The current three-day mandate has been a disaster since the start – any increases will inevitably lead to more chaos, overcrowded offices, gridlocked streets and millions of dollars in new spending on leases and renovations to aging federal buildings.
There’s a better way. The government’s own analysis shows it could save $6 billion by expanding remote work for tens of thousands of federal workers and selling unneeded office space.
This is the moment to speak up.
